Folkestone & Hythe District Council

8 Month Internal Secondment Opportunity (Subject to confirmation of external funding)

Folkestone & Hythe District Council is committed to developing the prosperity and wellbeing of the communities we serve. We offer the best possible community support and engagement to enable all within our community to reach their full potential.

We have an exciting opportunity for two highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to work as Community Development Officers, within our District Council, as part of our Community Renewal Programme.

In this role you will engage and recruit beneficiaries, within the local community, to our renewal programme. The programme, which is being led by EKC Group, will focus on those beneficiaries furthest away from the job market to provide support to enable them to achieve their maximum potential.
You will work in partnership with a network of community learning providers, community partners, voluntary organisations, Jobcentre Plus, and employers to enable adults to engage in learning and mentoring support that will help them overcome their barriers to learning and work. Support for beneficiaries will also include providing them with a digital device and connectivity if this is identified as a specific barrier.

You may have previously worked in community programmes or you will have transferable skills from other areas such as community initiatives aimed at training and employment, supporting development groups, coaching and mentoring. You will have experience in, or will understand, delivering through partnerships and the requirements of community learning.

You will also need a good understanding of the key principles of community development work, have excellent written and oral communication skills, be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and learners and demonstrate effective team working skills. You will also need to demonstrate the ability to travel throughout the District.

We welcome applications from people with a diverse range of skills and experience and we’re keen to attract and invest in staff who have the ambition, determination and ability to make a positive difference. If you do not meet all the criteria on the person specification we would still like to hear from you and welcome your application.

Closing date for receipt of completed applications is 12:00pm 3rd December 2021

Previous applicants who have applied in the past 6 months need not apply.
